My Responsibility With the Dogs

Image
by James, age 11  When the females have puppies and the puppies start eating food, Chase and I take the moms outside into the big kennel for the day so that the puppies will get used to not having there mother with them.  In the summer I am responsible to feed and water my portion of our sixty huskies and Chase and Lucy do the rest of the dogs.  In the fall, we train the dogs by dog carting. The carts are metal and benches are wood. The driver stands on the back. I help harness the dogs. This year I am going to drive.  We train and exercise the dogs so that when they are up in the mountains they know the commands and are ready.

The Wood Stove

By Lucy age 8 We cut the wood and stack it at the side of the house.  James Chase and I have jobs.  I have to dump the ash bucket.   James has to bring in wood into the house  and Chase brings the wood into the garage. the ash bucket is a pot that we could not use, and so we put the ash in it and I go  and dump it in the ash pile.   It is so fun living here.
